996SPS was

The Ducati 996SPS was Ducati's range topping superbike from 1998 - 2000. SPS stands for 'Sport Production Special' and this designation, along with the white tail section, marks the variant out from the standard Ducati 996.The 996SPS replaced the 916SPS, which incidentally also used a 996 cc, in 1998. The new bike had a higher spec engine over the standard 996 with an extra 10 - 12 bhp available. Power delivery on the 996SPS is more peaky, making the bike more suited to track riding.The 996SPS uses lighter 5 spoke Marchesini wheels as opposed to the 996's three spoke units.An adjustable steering head allows for geometry changes to suit the rider or track.Over the two years of production modifications and

1) The right hand clip on snapped off as I took it off the side stand since the the bolts holding it on had been installed incorrectly, placing stress in the wrong places. Could have killed me. 2) No O-ring on the inlet tract on the rear cylinder, meaning water dropping down into the tract in wet weather. 3) Electrical failure (lights) which was fixed under warranty 4) At 3500 Mile service the rear cylinder cam bearing surface was found to be heavily pitted, new cylinder head needed (under warranty), but it could have snapped the cam belt, seized the motor, and caused injury to me or other road users (it was slowly seizing up). All of which are avoidable with proper QC at the factory. So be careful if buying one of these bikes, once sorted they are great. Guy

Ducati 749

The Ducati 748 Biposto was built from 1995 to 1999. Although the Ducati 748, as a model, remained through to 2003 before being replaced by the Ducati 749.Aesthetically almost identical to the Ducati 916, the 748 Biposto features the same frame, suspension and brakes as the 916.

The 2008 Ducati 848 is the replacement middleweight sports bike for Ducati, taking over from the Ducati 749. The 848 is 20 kgs (44 lbs) lighter than its predecessor, while its engine develops around 35 horsepower more.The 848 cc, L-twin engine uses an improved method of production in which the engine cases are vacuum die-cast formed. While providing significant weight savings of more than 3 kg (6.5 lbs), this method also ensures consistent wall thickness and increased strength. All motorbikes from all over the country cities and counties, started the parade after the ceremony by way of Line 61 High Way (Sibin high way) to arrive in Tainan city meeting field. There were about 5000 motorbikes of different brands worth more than 3.5 billion dollars getting together. It’s spectacular and the crowds were so excited.
