Kawasaki Aircraft Department, which was formed in 1918, was renamed in 1937 as the Kawasaki Aircraft Company and became a leader in aircraft design and construction. However, the company found itself on sticky ground after the effects of the Second World War. Producing planes for 'kamikazes' was now considered a 'no-no'!
